About the TCD CGPA Calculator
Ireland's top university using ECTS-compatible grading for international mobility.
Trinity College Dublin (TCD) — Ireland's oldest university — uses ECTS-compatible grading with A–F letters on module transcripts, alongside traditional Irish percentage marks for many programmes. Final honours degrees may still reference UK-style classification (First, 2:1, etc.) depending on programme. This calculator supports ECTS letter credit-weighted averages for modules graded on the European A–F scale. Wrong scale? Tell us — or browse more Ireland calculators.
What TCD students should know
Trinity's historic campus hosts programmes from liberal arts to engineering with varying assessment styles. ECTS credits facilitate Erasmus mobility — exchange grades appear on transcripts with ECTS letters. Students applying to UK or EU graduate schools should provide Trinity's official transcript and diploma supplement rather than self-converted GPAs.
How to use this calculator
- Download module marks, ECTS credits, and letter grades from Trinity's my.tcd.ie portal.
- Enter ECTS letter grades (A–F) with corresponding credits for each module.
- Compute weighted semester and cumulative averages using the ECTS table.
- For US applications, order official Trinity transcripts — WES and similar services handle conversion.
TCD grading system
Trinity modules on ECTS scale use: A (90–100 excellent), B (80–89 very good), C (70–79 good), D (60–69 satisfactory), E (50–59 sufficient), F (below 50 fail). Some programmes also report percentage marks mapping to I–IV honours class boundaries — check your school handbook.
The math behind semester GPA and cumulative CGPA is the same across most universities — see our CGPA formula guide for a worked example. For broader planning tips, read the complete CGPA guide on the homepage or browse student articles on the blog.
Percentage conversion
Irish and UK-linked programmes may show both percentages and class. ECTS letters do not convert via CGPA × 25 — use Trinity's diploma supplement for official equivalency statements.
