About the UTM CGPA Calculator
Malaysia's top technical university. Calculate CGPA using the standard IPTA 4.0 grading scale.
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) — Malaysia's flagship engineering and technology public university, with campuses in Skudai, Johor and Kuala Lumpur — grades on the national IPTA 4.0 scale. UTM students track PNGS (semester) and PNGK (cumulative) for Dean's List, JPA/MARA scholarships, and PTPTN loan compliance. This calculator loads the official IPTA grade table used on UTM transcripts. Wrong scale? Tell us — or browse more Malaysia calculators.
What UTM students should know
UTM engineering programmes are credit-heavy: design studios, labs, and industrial training carry SKS that count fully toward PNGK. A weak grade in a 4-SKS core subject moves your average far more than the same grade in a 2-SKS elective. UTM faculties publish grade distributions per course — if your letter sits near a boundary, confirm the exact mark-to-grade mapping in your faculty handbook before modelling targets.
How to use this calculator
- Open Semester GPA and list every subject with SKS from your UTM student portal (myUTM).
- Match IPTA letter grades: A (80–100) = 4.00, A- (75–79) = 3.67, B+ (70–74) = 3.33, B (65–69) = 3.00, down to F (below 40) = 0.00.
- Switch to CGPA mode for cumulative PNGK — weight each semester by total SKS, not by semester count.
- For JPA, MARA, or employer forms, attach your official UTM transcript rather than self-calculated figures.
UTM grading system
UTM applies the Malaysian IPTA 4.0 scale: A = 4.00, A- = 3.67, B+ = 3.33, B = 3.00, B- = 2.67, C+ = 2.33, C = 2.00, C- = 1.67, D = 1.00, F = 0.00. Note the .67/.33 fractions — they differ from the 4.0 scales used by private universities like UTAR, so never mix tables when comparing with friends at other campuses.
The math behind semester GPA and cumulative CGPA is the same across most universities — see our CGPA formula guide for a worked example. For broader planning tips, read the complete CGPA guide on the homepage or browse student articles on the blog.
Percentage conversion
UTM transcripts report PNGK, not percentage. Students commonly estimate percentage as PNGK × 25, but UTM does not certify that conversion — request an official letter from the academic office when applications demand a percentage.
