About the Oxford CGPA Calculator
World-leading university using the UK honours classification — First, 2:1, 2:2, and Third.
University of Oxford does not award a simple cumulative CGPA like American or South Asian universities. Final degree class — First, Upper Second (2:1), Lower Second (2:2), or Third — comes from weighted averages of exam and coursework marks across your programme, often with prelims and finals counted differently. This calculator helps you estimate where your percentage average sits against UK honours boundaries, not multiply a fictional CGPA by 25. Wrong scale? What Oxford students should know
Oxford's collegiate system means your grade profile combines college tutorials with university-wide exams. History, PPE, and STEM courses use different assessment mixes — some are exam-heavy, others include dissertations worth large mark shares. If you are an international student comparing Oxford marks to a 4.0 GPA, use official conversion guidance from your college or the university registry, not informal online formulas.
How to use this calculator
- Gather percentage marks (or class equivalents) for each assessed component from your Oxford student record or tutor reports.
- Enter credit-weighted modules if your programme publishes credit values — otherwise weight by the examination regulations for your course.
- Compare your weighted average against UK class boundaries: First (70%+), 2:1 (60–69%), 2:2 (50–59%), Third (40–49%).
- For US graduate school or employer forms, request an official Oxford transcript with degree class — self-calculated averages are planning tools only.
Oxford grading system
Oxford follows UK honours classification where First Class requires 70% or above, Upper Second (2:1) is 60–69%, Lower Second (2:2) is 50–59%, Third Class is 40–49%, and below 40% is fail. There is no universal "Oxford CGPA" — your degree class or module percentages are the official record.
The math behind semester GPA and cumulative CGPA is the same across most universities — see our CGPA formula guide for a worked example. For broader planning tips, read the complete CGPA guide on the homepage or browse student articles on the blog.
Percentage conversion
UK degrees are expressed as classification bands, not CGPA × 25. A 68% average typically yields a 2:1 — do not apply Bangladesh-style percentage shortcuts. Oxford transcripts show marks and final class; use those for official applications.
